Rochelle Hodgson

"Whilst I was studying at college, I realised that I wanted to focus on interior design. When entering a home for the first time, I immediately looked and evaluated the décor. That’s when I knew that I had to get a diploma in interior design. As I was still studying, I needed an online course that was professional, flexible and affordable and that’s when I found The Interior Design Institute.

Support from the family hasn’t always been there as they don’t believe that ‘art’ can get you anywhere in life. However, I set out to prove them wrong and immediately enrolled in the course. It was difficult at times to balance college work with the course but knowing that I was going to be able to do something I loved kept me going.

The diversity of the course has widened my knowledge to the interiors around the world. I hope to one day visit many places of the world to get invaluable inspiration in order to design unique homes. I also found that the support from tutors was always there and they would help me whenever I needed it.

Since graduation, I have started an Interior Design business in Jersey called ‘Divine Dezigns’ (www.divinedezigns.co.uk) focusing on commercial and residential design. We offer our services worldwide, we create sample boards and design schemes that can be posted directly to their door.

I encourage anyone looking for an Interior Design Course to enrol now at The Interior Design Institute. Trust me, it's invaluable..."

Stephanie Keighron

"I used to work for a finance company doing marketing which, as the years went on I found less and less interesting and I knew my heart wasn't in it. A few years ago I was involved in a pretty bad car accident and following that it made me realise that life is too short and you shouldn't be in a job you hate you should be doing what you love.

My passion has always been interior design, I used to do it as hobby, then my brother opened up his own cafe and I did the interior design for him, then I realised I was pretty good and I decided to make this into my career and do something I enjoyed so much. So I decided I wanted to learn more about it and get a qualification in interior design.

So I did a Google search and the Interior Design Institute was top of the list, the course seemed just want I was looking and it was also very reasonably priced. So I decided to take a huge gamble using the money received in my crash compensation to leave my secure boring marketing job and I took a few months off and started the course.

I was enjoying it so much before I knew it I was half way through, it didn't feel like a chore to have to do the assignments as I enjoyed them so much. I loved the detail of history it informs you about, how interior design came together from all the different cultures and how it formed its own identity against architecture.

During the process of completing my modules I invested into my own interior design/property styling franchise, House Wow Ltd. During the set up of my business the course was amazing as the modules seemed to coincide with where I was at in setting up the business, and it really encouraged me, it was also so convenient doing this via distance learning, as I could now fit the work around building the business.

I was very sad when I handed in my last assignment; I really enjoyed the assignments and was always eager and excited to find out what the next module was going to be about. I loved how it built the foundations of interior design from history to the present day.

I now run a successful franchise of House Wow Ltd in the West Yorkshire area www.housewow.co.uk focusing on property styling, home staging and show homes and I am now so happy to be able to turn around and say that I love my job and that I am finally a qualified interior designer, all thanks to this course. Thank you"

"Following a 25 year involvement in the decorating industry I decided to concentrate more on a qualification in Interior Design, I looked around for the best solution that would fit in with my busy professional life.

I found that the course was not only professionally run but was also structurally sound, the flexibility it gave me to continue working made it perfect for me to achieve my goal.

Since graduation I have completed numerous commercial and domestic projects and now run my own practice which employs 3 designers and 4 technicians and I have also been appointed Interior Designer for Dulux Design Service (duluxdesignservice.co.uk).

I would encourage anyone with limited time but with lots of enthusiasm to undertake this course and I wish you well in the future..."

Shelley Bradstock

"I have always had a passion for interior design. I was never able to fully indulge in this love until 18 months ago when I got married, then my husband and I renovated our first home together. At this time, I had just completed my Masters degree and was about to embark on a career in Social Work, but I knew that my heart wasn’t in it.

Whilst researching interior design techniques to help with our decorating, I came across the Interior Design Institute. At first I decided to take the Course to help with our renovations, thinking that I would, at the very least, gain knowledge and learn new skills that I could use in my own home design and decorating. However, after completing the first two modules I was hooked and I knew that I really wanted to have a career in interior design.

The Course is brilliantly structured and gives you a fantastic background knowledge of interior design. It culminates in advice and insider-information about how to set up a successful interior design business.

I loved working online to suit my own schedule and I have been able to set up my business at the same time as completing the Course.

I have designed and created my own website www.designsbyshelleyb.co.uk, have almost completed my first residential project and have secured a non-residential project to start this week – and I only completed my final Course module three days ago!

I would like to thank my tutors Richard and Alex, who were both fantastic in giving prompt, enthusiastic, encouraging and constructive feedback. I have thoroughly enjoyed gaining my Diploma and am looking forward to my new career in interior design – and most importantly to be doing something that I love every day..."

Meghan Behr

"I have always had an interest in interior design but it was only until recently that I started to think about making it a career. I did some research and the only courses I was able to find were either full-time or part-time (1 day per week), as I work full-time this was never a possibility for me. Then I found The Interior Design Institute and could hardly believe my luck – I could study completely online in my own time…and it is affordable!

I got the money together and started the course and I can honestly say that I have not looked back! From my very first assignment my whole way of thinking changed. When going out for dinner and staying at a hotel, I began drawing on everything I learnt and analysing design flaws and how to change them as well as studying beautiful designs and why they worked and looked good!

The modules are very comprehensive and move steadily through each design phase. Throughout the course you are encouraged to scour the internet, design magazines, shops etc for interesting designs that inspire you. I embraced this with gusto and in my internet travels, came across some fantastic design blogs that provided endless creative inspiration. I have since ended up creating my own blog which not only serves as a catalogue for some of the amazing designs I come across everyday but it is also a wonderful creative outlet for me ( http://my-wishfulthinking.blogspot.com/ )

I cannot thank my tutor (Samantha) enough, she was always prompt and concise when answering my questions and also went that step extra by giving me tips and advice on how she tackles obstacles in her role as designer! I found this information invaluable and hope to draw on it in the future...."

Gerard McGuickin

"Interior design has been a passion of mine for a very long time. However it’s always been on the sidelines. I never could quite get up the nerve to try it for real. After a significant episode in my life I made the decision to make a big career change. I wanted to concentrate my efforts on being an interior designer. Whilst I felt I had the necessary appetite, a good eye and a lot of knowledge about design, I needed a course that would help me to pull a number of different strands together. The Interior Design Institute course ticked all of my boxes - cost, breadth of curriculum, self-motivational working, and no strict deadlines.

I enjoyed the trajectory of the programme - it was structured and made sense. My favourite modules included the visual language of design, styles of design, furniture and the client. I enjoyed the fictional, but very practical and useful, client project that bridged several modules. My tutor, Alex Simpson, was helpful with his feedback, friendly and encouraging. With this course you really do need to be committed to completing the assignments. You won’t have anyone pushing you along, but that was a way of working that suited my style.

If the Interior Design Institute course did one thing for me, it was to affirm my belief that I’ll make a good interior designer. I don’t mean that it was all easy, but rather that it came naturally. It made sense and felt right. If there’s one area that I need to brush up on, it’s CAD. The course gave a brief introduction, but I do need to continue my learning here.

My intention was always to set up my own interior design business. I’ve now done this and I love the change of pace in my life. My company is called Walnut Grey Design and I launched my website in August 2011. You can see it here - www.walnutgreydesign.com. I’m also blogging about design and interior design. I love to write and to talk about design, so my blog is a great outlet for me :-).."

Joanna Prestidge

"I enjoyed every minute of studying this course. It totally reinforced my desire to make interior design and architecture my future.

From the outset I found the course extremely flexible. Questions were answered really quickly by the efficient support staff and studying online meant that I could pace myself and commit time to it when I was able to.

I worked very hard and believe that, like everything, you get out what you put in. I was therefore delighted with my final result. I enjoyed the modules and assignments and the research involved as well as being able build on and improve my skills as the course progressed. After submitting each assignment, the next module was available to download and I appreciated being able to continue straight away and keep the momentum going.

The comprehensive and positive feedback received from my tutor was also very encouraging and helped to build my confidence. Before completing the course I started to set up my own business - Joanna Interior Design and received my first commission.

This was to re-design a kitchen layout. It was done remotely and I provided orthographic projection and axonometric drawings as well as a selection of kitchen unit tops, cupboards and accessory possibilities for my client to choose from.

My drawing skills, non-existent before I started the course, have been a pleasant surprise and I am thrilled with how I have progressed. I was able to submit an axonometric drawing that I produced for my first commission for one of my assignments and received extremely positive comments from both my tutor and my client.

The Diploma course provided me with so many vital skills and also gave me a great deal to consider. Having had no previous experience of designing interiors apart from my own, I drew from my long-held passion for design, architecture, art and photography which brought the course content alive. I then put all of this together to form my design philosophy.

My friends and family have been extremely supportive and are impressed with what I have achieved in this new venture. The course has given me the tools and the confidence to make a success of my business and I am looking forward to my next commission"

"I have been interested in Interior Design since a very young age; I remember moving everyone's house furniture around and always thinking what I would change to better a room. This is still something I do today. I first got word of The Interior Design Institute about 3 years ago while browsing for Interior Design Courses online.

Last year I finally took the plunge and went for it. I am sad that I didn't do it sooner! This Course was so much fun and I was just so interested in it. The course is set out in a nice way and it really makes you think about things in a way you wouldn't normally. This course really opened my mind to a new way of seeing interiors; it made me analyse every interior even more then I used to in the past. I really feel this Course is very well priced and you actually get far more than you pay for!

My tutor really motivated me with praise and always gave me constructive feedback; he made me aware that it's okay to trust your instincts. With most things in life there is a guide you follow, but with Interior Design you can be unique as well!I think all in all this course is well worth it; you work in your own time, you get to be creative and you learn a lot. If I could, I would do it all over again..."

"I have always loved interior design.  As a Sales & Marketing Director for a Scottish House Builder, I also had a passion for the external design of a house and how it was built and put together.

Being in the fortunate position of talking to potential home buyers every day, I also learnt that everyone has a specific requirement for the way their homes need to function.  What became very evident to me was that the majority of people were moving because their current home had elements that didn't work for them, although the majority of customers loved their home and location but just generally felt dissatisfied.

A new home offered them what they perceived as the opportunity to create their ideal living space.  I decided then that what the majority of customers needed was someone to help them unlock the potential of their current home, without the upheaval of moving and leaving friends and family.  I realised how daunting home renovations and makeovers were for some people who genuinely had no idea where to start.

For me, I loved the prospect and decided that this was what I wanted to be doing.  The Diploma course offered by The Institute of Interior Design not only offered the invaluable historical and architectural background needed, but outlined the basic principles behind design and how to make a design really flow.

I cannot praise this course highly enough for giving me the knowledge and confidence to follow my dream, and start a new business for myself in Interior Design.

It took me 4 months to complete the course whilst working full time, and during that time I have successfully tendered for four jobs.  2010 looks set to be the year when my dreams become reality.  Thank you for this opportunity..."

Mark R Phillips

"After starting my own Property Development Company in 2004 and completing many projects, both new build and refurbishments, I created, designed and dressed all our show houses in each development both in the U.K and abroad. I found that a great deal of interest was generated for my interiors as well as our build quality, both contemporary and traditional.

After being inspired by such positive feedback, I started making enquiries about achieving a Diploma in interior design online.

Several of my friends and contacts in the property world highly recommended The Interior Design Institute.

After reading the prospectus I was greatly impressed, so I enrolled and commenced my diploma.

It has taken me longer than expected to complete the course with my other business commitments but I did as much as I could in any spare time I had.

I found each and every module and assignment thoroughly enjoyable and extremely informative.

My tutor Samantha was a great inspiration to me, marking each assignment as soon as I completed them and giving constructive comments and advice that I found invaluable. Her expertise is second to none.

This is the best thing I have done in years; I wish I had done it years ago.

Anyone interested in Interior Design and how it has evolved over the years to where we are today should enrol ASAP whether as a career or as a hobby.

I have also started my own design practice “Philip Mark Interior Design Ltd", which is proving to be a success and the Design Institute has given me the knowledge, confidence and ability to be successful in the Interior Design world. Brilliant..."

Kellie Tolmie

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent on this course over the past year. I am exceptionally happy to have successfully completed it and am looking forward to what the future may bring.

I found every aspect of the course clear and simple to understand and have also enjoyed all of the work involved in the assignments as it didn't feel like work, it was fun and interesting to do!

This course has made my dreams a reality and proved to me that this is the direction my life needs to take. I have wanted to do a course in Interior Design for many years, but found other available course were very strict and didn't offer me the flexibility that I needed.

This course offered me all of that and more. I have been able to get on with my work at times to suit me which I have found invaluable. I have previously worked on my own homes and also for friends and family. This has been good experience for me and a good foundation to work from.

I am now in the process of setting up my own business and have already received my first project which I am very excited about! My confidence in my own design has soared and I am looking forward to developing my newly learned skills. I have also been speaking with a local Interior design firm who have offered their time and are allowing me to spend a day or two going over my portfolio and discussing in more depth, the way in which the industry works and what aspects might help me in my new career. I would definitely recommend this course. It is affordable, the team and tutors are extremely helpful and most of all its enjoyable! If I hadn't have found the Interior Design Institute I would have probably never followed my passion and fulfilled my life's ambitions!"

Kerry Quinn

"Interior design has been a passion I have longed to explore. I have spent most of my career in various sales roles, including three years as a legal recruitment consultant. I have always enjoyed looking at architecture, art and interior spaces.

I first thought about studying interior design after purchasing my house which required refurbishment and interior decoration work. I thought it would useful to have the technical knowledge and skills to transform the house into a beautiful home. Due to work commitments at the time I was unable to pursue any studies. However, last year I decided that life is too short to miss out on opportunities and it is imperative to follow your dreams and ambitions, thus prompting me to research potential online courses.

After reading the outline of the course and the testimonial page on The Interior Design Institutes' website, I just knew immediately that this was the right course for me.

I found the course comprehensive and thorough, leaving no stone unturned. This allowed me to gain employment within a residential interior design shop in the beginning, where I have benefited from having the opportunity to put colour schemes together. During the latter part of my course, I decided to approach a commercial design practice where I was successful in being offered a position. I believe the course has given me enviable experience and exposure to the world of residential and commercial interiors.

I have found the whole team a pleasure to deal with. The prompt response from the support team was especially impressive. Advice and feedback given to me from my wonderful tutor was really helpful and encouraging throughout the course, which enabled me to move onto the next module in confidence knowing I had truly understood the module and assignments required.

I am ecstatic about achieving my Diploma. I plan to further my studies with Staffordshire University and enrol on a BA Hons degree programme in interior design. Without this Diploma and experience of studying via distant learning, I would not have been able to realise my dream of becoming a professional interior designer.

I would recommend this course to any likeminded individuals thinking about studying through this method. My whole experience with The Interior Design Institute' has exceeded my expectations of surpassing my goals of becoming qualified in the wonderful world of interiors"

... Kerry Quinn, West Midlands.

Lucy Walter

"Having always been known as the 'creative one' in the family I have always felt something missing in my 9-5 job at the office for an International Publishing company. Choosing this Diploma enabled me to pursue Interior Design which has long been a passion of mine and one that I regretted not opting for at degree level at a younger age.

This course has given me a grounding in Interior Design and a clear understanding of what is expected of a Designer, from both client and employer perspectives. I have thoroughly enjoyed every module the Interior Design Institute have included on the diploma course and feel every element of the industry has been covered.

I chose to complete a diploma with this Institute after researching many, I found this course offered much support and guidance along the way and the website clearly outlined exactly what to expect from the course.

The efficiency of feedback on assignments and support from the tutors really is exceptional for a distant learning course. The course encourages lots of research, reading design journals, visiting trade shows and exposing yourself to as much of the industry as possible; ultimately it is up to you to put the leg work in if this is a career you want to pursue.

I have been lucky enough to continue with full time employment whilst undertaking the course, with a view to set up an official interior concept company in September 2009, initially working evenings and weekends so I can continue with my current income while I build up my portfolio.

I enrolled on a beginners AutoCAD course at a local college and became a Student BIDA member to support the Diploma. I have been involved in a number of live projects whist studying through friends and family contacts and also had some experience days with local Interior Design companies. This experience really is invaluable and actually confirmed to me that this is a career suited to me and where I see myself flourishing"

... Lucy Walter, Beaconsfield.

Sinead McCartan

"Last year I was studying a medical based course and I felt really unhappy. I am usually a happy bubbly person but my outlook on life was dull as I was going to study for years while working 9 to 5 at a job I didn't like.

Then I took on this diploma as a hobby and decided this is what I want to do with my life. Different challenges every day, never boring, only extremely exciting. The people within the industry are also friendly and happy which was a good indicator for me because on my previous course everyone looked miserable as though they were being forced to work.

I have done so well on the course that I have been accepted to John Moore's University, Liverpool to study an honours degree course in Interior Design so I can further my knowledge. I have never completed any art subjects but the university accepted me entirely on the fact I had this diploma.

I have to mention that my personal tutor, Samantha, was amazing and helped me every step of the way. Thanks to everyone at the interior design institute, this course changed my outlook on life, it made me happy again and I'm excited about the future. I couldn't have done it without you"

... Sinead McCartan, Mersyside.

Amelia McNeil

"I did this diploma course to make sure that I was suited to the world of interior design. I wanted to make sure I enjoyed it enough to pursue it as a full time career and I am now confident that I do. (I have just come out of a 4-year career in the film industry.)

The course has made me feel even more inspired by the interior design industry and I am now very excited about the future even though I am only on the first step of the ladder. I have surprised myself with my motivation to study on my own at home.

I believe this was aided by my genuine interest in what I was reading, by my strong desire to move into a different field and by the content and the layout of the course, which I believe were fantastic. Studying can take real discipline but I never found it a chore. As a result of my enjoyment of the course, I am taking my studies to another level and have enrolled at a design school to do a 10 - week certificate in interior decoration which I believe will compliment what I have learned on the diploma course.

In the meantime, I have just secured work experience for 2 days a week in a local interior design company after making several enquiries. I am really excited about gaining practical experience that I hope, along with my qualifications, will help me to secure a job. My family and friends have all been very interested in the course and can see how much I have benefited from it.

It has been an enjoyable topic of conversation for the last six months and I would not think twice about recommending it to someone. Having a career change is not always an easy step and this course was crucial in giving me the confidence to do so. I hope one day to have my own company but I think I have a lot more learning to do first. I am looking forward to it"

... Amelia McNeil, London.

Tania Costa Bernardo

"I work as a Methodologist for a multinational Market Research company and numbers have been my game in my career, at least, so far I wanted to challenge my skills and see if I could start a new path, a creative one.

I have always been passionate about Interior Design and I wanted to know more about it and who knows, perhaps start my own business. I told this to my husband and secretly he signed me up for this course and surprised me with the first module.

As I work full time and regularly travel to my home country (Portugal) this course was perfect being internet based which meant that I could access it anytime and anywhere I wanted.

The course is designed in a progressive way, building the foundations of the interior design at the first modules and then approaches all the relevant practical themes and ends with a start: the start of your own business.

Thanks to this course I have discovered a side of me that I always knew I had it, but it was hidden. Now I am much more confident about my abilities and always looking for new opportunities to expand my horizons.

The feedback that I got after my assignments was always very positive, relevant and constructive. The same applies to the student support service answering swiftly to my queries. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants flexibility, relevant and practical themes and would like to start developing and exploring a new creative path in an interior design career and at an affordable cost. Many thanks, Tania"

... Tania Costa Bernardo, Richmond.

Kim Karam

"I signed up for this course because it fulfilled all the criterion I had when I searched on the internet for a suitable qualification.

As I currently live on a small, remote island, I needed a course which was delivered solely online and did not require me to purchase lots of expensive equipment. I also wanted to work at my own pace so I could complete the course reasonably quickly, before I began a new job.

The Interior Design Institute offered such a course and I managed to complete the 12 modules and assignments in about 12 weeks. The studies fitted around my work commitments. I was given the flexibility to research online and formulate my assignment answers to my own schedule - without having to work late into the night or worry about deadlines. In addition to the expected course knowledge, I learned a lot of transferable skills; editing photos, resizing images to attach to assignments, specific online research skills and, of course, many design, planning and drawing guidelines.

My family and friends were delighted and interested in my progress and surprised to see the rapid but systematic, progressive improvements I was making. They offered their advice and opinions when I drew designs and we enjoyed long discussions about what I had learned and what contributed to good and poor design. Interior Design is something most people, even those who have never had training, have an opinion about.

I have highly recommended this course to many of my friends as I feel it is both rewarding and excellent value for money. Since starting the course I have been involved in helping several friends and family members redesign rooms in their homes and this has been very rewarding.

I have also improved my communication skills. Now I can describe specific details very precisely and articulately in words and pictures to tradesmen, clients and retailers. Now that I have completed the course I have a huge sense of satisfaction and confidence. I always knew I was interested in this field but now I have the skills, abilities and knowledge to pursue it as a career, not just a hobby. I am seriously thinking about starting my own small design business.

If you are keen to sign up, this course will lead you through the key elements of the Interior Design process in a logical and sequential way. It builds knowledge gradually and encourages personal research.

At all times participants have access to online support and I found this helpful when I was unsure of how to progress or if I just needed some encouragement and direction.

The course is not delivered in such a way that facts and answers need to be learned; more excitingly, it encourages free-thinking and gives guidance, direction and pointers. If you are a self-motivated, independent worker, you will enjoy this course and achieve high quality, professional results"

... Kim Karam, Shetland.

Glenys Murphy

"Dear Camille, Thank you so much for all your help and support throughout my journey to achieving my diploma.

It's been a pleasure working with you and taking onboard all your comments and suggestions. I was quite lucky as my employers paid for my course.

I needed an Interior design qualification to secure my position as a Home furnishings adviser in a large home furnishing store. They are so delighted with how well I have done that they are considering putting more staff on the course.

I can now meet my customers with so much more confidence and knowledge. It's all been great. Thank you so much. Regards Glenys"

... Glenys Murphy, Wednesbury.

Mary Mansfield

"It has been such a pleasure undertaking this course in that I have learnt so much more about the world of interior design. Interior design has been a passion of mine for such a long time and having thought I learnt the basics from previous courses, somehow realised that I still had some serious gaps in my knowledge.

This course has helped to fix that particularly in regards to the history, principles, lighting and colour of design. I also liked the way in which the course gradually developed in a logical, methodical way which was so easy to follow and which offered a lot of detail in each module.

The flexible nature of the course was also a major plus for me, being able to study online at any time of the day or night, weekend etc. I also relished the brevity of time in which one was able to complete the course, in spite of which the course was not scant on detail. The speed at which assignments were marked, the useful feedback from tutor and general support services were also very positive traits of this course.

My husband is delighted that, after all these years, I now feel properly prepared to go out and start earning a living from my design work. Other friends and family are simply chuffed that I have been brave enough to follow my dream and make such a big career change from Social Worker to Interior Designer and that I have finally achieved my qualification in this new field.

Following assignment 10 in this course, I have been commissioned by a friend to completely renovate her hallway. I am really excited about this and already have some great ideas about the direction in which to take this project following the course.

As I mentioned in the survey, I wished I had undertaken this course prior to my own home renovation, which although I am fairly pleased with, still meant that I had missed out on some useful information. However, I now feel fully armed and prepared to take on the world and to continue building on my new found knowledge and learning experiences!"

... Mary Mansfield, Camebridgeshire.

Ella Wood

"I have always wanted to be an Interior Designer, but up until now have lacked the confidence to seriously carry it forward.

Last September I was more than excited when, out of sheer curiosity, my mouse clicked upon the Interior Design Institute (IDI) and the Diploma Course they were advertising.

The enrolment procedure looked easy and the cost seemed very reasonable. Before I knew it I was a student again and downloading Module 1 ... During the course, I became so intensely involved with the rich design experience it offered, I was actually sad when I submitted Assignment 12 and was informed that I had reached the end!

From the beginning, I always looked forward to finding out what the next module involved and what journey of design discovery I would also find myself on. I used it as a tool to start visiting places, museums, galleries, shops, studios, talking to people, looking up, down, around and in all the places I hadn't paid enough attention to in the past.

Their individual approach to studying online enabled me to develop a quality learning routine that really suited my lifestyle. I particularly appreciated the sequential and professional layout of each module. This made the course very user-friendly and, through participation, taught me the relevant business skills alongside a creative aspect both of which allowed me to develop my confidence as an interior designer.

The feedback given at the end of each assignment was positive and supportive. It was invaluable as part of my successful progression through the course. All of a sudden, I found myself having detailed conversations about interior design and was happily surprised to see that people were really engaged and impressed!

It was at a party, last autumn, through chatting away that I was given my first paid commission to re-design a domestic bathroom. I could not believe that I was about to get paid for doing something I actually love!!! I was able to use the IDI Diploma course as a framework to assist in the creation of my own unique design process.

What was really noticeable was how my communication skills had improved both when speaking to the client and through visual presentations. Since then I have been asked to undertake 2 further paid commissions by friends and family members and also approached by a medium sized design studio in East London, via a friend of mine who is an architect, to work full time as a Practice Manager / Interior Designer.

I now have the confidence, as well as a complete portfolio, required to apply. I am completely thrilled with the outcome and would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody at the Interior Design Institute; in particular, Samantha and Tracey, for their support in helping me make real my professional dream"

... Ella Wood, London.

Jayne Baker

"I have always been a creative person and had applied for jobs where I could use my artistic skills but never succeeded, as I didn't have the relevant qualifications.

I decided to look for a course in Interior Design, as I had always shown an interest in this field and saw it as a way of one day having my own business.

I chose the Interior Design Institute for various reasons. Firstly, the cost of the course seemed very reasonable in comparison with other courses being advertised on the Internet. I was also very impressed with their professional looking website and interested to read that the tutors were professionals in their field, passing on their knowledge and experience.

Working full time and living in a country where the post isn't so reliable, it was important for me to find a course that was purely online and flexible. The Interior Design Institute was the answer. The course offered varied tasks to do for each module, there were no deadlines to feel pressured to meet, student support were always prompt in replying to any queries I had and my tutor was encouraging and supportive at every step.

image I feel I have gained the knowledge and confidence to pursue a career in design and when I return to the UK, I intend on enquiring about setting up my own interior design business. I have already lined up a couple of family members and friends as my first potential clients. I think they have more trust in me now I have completed the course, knowing I won't just paint their walls pink! I must thank the Interior Design Institute for making me feel such a great sense of achievement"

"I have always wanted to study Interior Design. Mostly because I love shopping for appliances for my house and to go back home and put them somewhere that changes the entire area.

I've learned so much by studying through the Interior Design Institute. I really thought I knew a lot about interior design, but it turned out I only knew the basics. This course has completely changed the way I look at buildings and rooms.

Obviously I couldn't wait to learn about colour, but it turned out that my favorite thing was to draw up floor plans and parallel drawings. It looked really hard and very difficult, but once I got it right, I got a very happy and satisfied feeling and I just couldn't wait to do it again.

I've chosen this course to change my job direction. I feel more confident now to apply for Design jobs. I have built up so much confidence that my husband trusted me enough to redesign our spare bedroom into a gym area for him. The fact that my family and friends wants me to design their houses makes me feel great. They have been so proud and supportive throughout the course and they say they can see a change in me.

It has helped me so much to have all the support from them and from my tutor as well. The student support and tutor help was overwhelming, as I didn't expect so many people to care for only one student. This course was very much enjoyable and very easy, but I really had to study to make it easy"

"At school I was a keen artist, always drawing or painting. When I left I took a year out to save money before going to University. However 9 years on, I am still at the same company and did not go to University!

I am able to use some of my artistic skills in my job, but I also wanted a hobby where I would use my skills more regularly. For a while I thought about completing an Interior Design Course, and after helping a friend redesign and decorate their new flat I knew I wanted to do it.

I studied another home study course first which took two years to complete. Although I did enjoy doing the course, it became very frustrating waiting for information to be returned in the post and seem to take a lot longer than necessary.

I would recommend this course because as soon as I subscribed I could start the course, not having to wait for material to be sent through the post. The assignments were marked quickly to enable me to progress on to the next assignment and I completed the course as quickly as I wanted.

The content was easy to read and understand, with illustrations and drawings provided. The assignments were marked with a detailed response providing more ideas and suggestions, illustrating that in Interior Design there is always more than once answer. I certainly felt that I learnt more on this course, and felt I was encouraged to think outside the box.

This course has confirmed to me that I will enjoy a career in Interior Design. I am currently building a portfolio of works before hopefully establishing a company. For now Interior Design will most certainly be my new hobby, which I am sure my friends will be happy about!"

"After completing my BTEC Diploma in Textiles I was unsure as to what direction to take next, instead of proceeding to university I opted for a career in retail. Design was always a passion of mine and working with clothes allowed me to be visually creative with colours and textures. However four years down the line and after a devastating loss I knew something was wrong and I needed a change of direction again.

After browsing the internet looking for courses to study, I came across The Interior Design Institute. Once I had read through their prospectus and after exploring the professional website I was interested almost immediately. The price was extremely reasonable and the cheapest I could find. Working full time meant I could not commit to my local college course; therefore studying online was much more convenient. It was nothing like I had expected, the structure of the assignments and modules were easy to understand and if I had any problems my tutor was only an email away.

The feedback and guidance I received was constructively precise. I learnt so much and my knowledge of not only colours and textures but architectural history and structural space has expanded. I have enjoyed every aspect of this course from beginning to end, I feel an immense amount of achievement and my confidence has soared. I have negotiated work experience one day a week in an interior design business and my partner and I are buying our first property, therefore this shall be my first project.

I hope in the near future, to develop my understanding further and create my own interior design business. I would like to say a massive thank you to my tutor Monique and the student support without their assistance I would not have completed this course. I would recommend this course to anybody who has a passion for interiors and design for a hobby or a career..."

"I have always been absolutely passionate about interior design and I am driven by observing and appreciating other people’s architecture and interior decoration.

After hours of researching on the internet to find the best college/university to study at, I came across The Interior Design Institute which was fantastic value for money and offered the opportunity to work in my own spare time. Unable to decide where I wanted to study in the long term, I felt that this would be an ideal prospect.

The course was incredibly well written and broken down into twelve manageable modules which allowed me to study in my own time and absorb it properly. When I had a question I emailed the tutors and the response was extremely prompt. They were also dedicated in answering other questions I had about interior design, unrelated to the course. I think that the most significant detail is the response that I received back after each assignment was completed. The comments were so thorough and I was able to really understand where and how I was able to improve.

Since being awarded the diploma, my confidence has expanded and I have definition in the direction I next head. I now write the interior design section of a county magazine each month, and I have been offered a full time job with an interior design company in Cheltenham.

Having spent the last few months gaining valuable experience at the company I am working for,  I really feel I am working towards my dream career in interior design and want to take this opportunity to thank the design institute for this AMAZING experience and helping build the foundations of this exciting profession!

Definitely recommended!..."

"It’s fair to say that since childhood, design has been my direction and an integral part of my life.

After lots of research into Interior Design Courses I decided to choose The Interior Design Institute. The modules really appealed to me, they were so relevant to help me take my career to the next step. Each module is written so well and clearly that I really enjoyed each one. The syllabus gives you a fabulous overview of interior design, taking you from the history of interior design right through to helping you set up a business.

My tutor Samantha Miller was fantastic; her comments on each module were so helpful and really displayed her in-depth knowledge of the subject.

The flexibility of the course is wonderful, it meant I could study whilst working full time, and you really don't have to be amazing at using the computer as the course layout is so simple to use.

Having completed the course I really feel I have the confidence and knowledge to start my career in interior design. I have since set up my own interior design company that I run from home in West London called Space By Alexandra, www.spacebyalexandra.com

This course comes highly recommended; I can honestly say I had no problems at all and found it a joy to study with The Interior Design Institute and would without a doubt study with them again.

Thank you!..."

"I have been a practising architect for over 12 years now, with my own practice for the last 3 years of that. Since having had my three children, and for a while before that, I have been considering shifting my career over to Interior Design.

Although my MA was in Interiors and Architecture, that was 15 years ago. I felt strongly that before I launched myself back into the market as an Interior Designer I needed to re-train. This was primarily to cover all those areas that architecture didn’t get involved with, but also to give me the confidence and the qualification to go forward.

I researched many courses but found this one to be the most flexible on time and the most cost effective.

It has proven to be perfect. Studying again daunted me but, to my surprise, I enjoyed it hugely. I looked forward to each new module, which included enough information to be stimulating but short enough to take it all in and to complete the assignments around 3 small children. The tutors and support team were encouraging but constructive and very quick to respond to all my queries and questions. Each module logically took me through every aspect with further reading, if I needed it. I knew the course wouldn’t cover every detail but I feel that I have come out with, not only a diploma, but a renewed interest and greater confidence to launch a new career in the Interior Design world.

Now that I have this diploma, I plan to set up my interior design company under the name HOW-SE, specialising mainly in the residential market for now. This course allows you to take that step from considering a career in this field to achieving one, easily, enjoyably and on your own terms. I recommend it..."
